Small comment respons

Hello,
1 week left of my vacation but I thought I could try and answer some of the questions/points that have been posted.

Read more to se my post! =)

Default airplane controls
We wanted to have inverted axis as default on airplanes but a requirement from one of the console companies made it impossible since as default pressing up on a stick must always mean up in the game on their console.
So this is nothing we can do anything about it and we did try to make it “pass” before release =)

Just go into options and change airplane axis and you are all set!

Tank shells having close to no splash
The tank driver have both shells and a coax gun. Use the coax on soldiers and you will be fine, if shells had big splash damage against infantry it would be overpowered.

Friendly Fire
There is no “fun” in killing team mates =)
Plus I already seen a lot more “up sides” to it, people cant shoot their own teams planes just because they didn’t get it themselves :D

Demo having expiry timy
This is an online only multiplayer game, if we didn’t have an expiry time we would give the game away for free =)
But your can play around in the tutorial level as long as you want to!

Tank sights
The 3rd person camera sight is not supposed to be used for precision aiming, 3rd person is for driving and maybe close combat shooting at houses =)
The 1st person view is the best sight to use when you are in a fire fight.

tanks are build to overpower…and hey, newsflash -it seems that in WW2 infantry was immune to large calibre weapons, sutch as airplane bombs, tank shells, recoiless cannons, anti-aircraft guns…and, you can blow up a tank with 3 sticks of dinomite…

people from DICE need to check the forums to see what their customers are saying, that is the point for having forums and game feedback.

    • Gustav says:

Bullets hurts soldiers, not bombs is the general design and it works well and balance the game.

Fun and balance before realism =)

    • M0t0rBreath says:

Dude, you like realism too much. I’ve seen you respond on so many things about realism, this is not your game, go play America’s Army or something.

  2. fraggerron says:

i think friendly fire should be turned on so you don’t kill team mates on accident or on purpose (like if someone gets an aa gun and you want it)
that’s just how it goes first com first serve

  3. unit_one says:

M0t0rBreath, first of all, I wasn’t talking to you. Second – why do you think I did’nt played AA? It’s a great game, but like you, I cannot play the same game forever.

Well, I will sure stop providing game feedback and my opinions. Since the game has been released and nothing will change.

All I can do for now is to say Good Luck on Your next Project Gustav Halling! (^_^)

by the way, the thing, that Friendly fire is turned off (teammates cannot kill each other) is actually an effective and simple way to control agressive players , and thus a good thing:)

    • M0t0rBreath says:

I didn’t mean to sound obnoxious. Sometimes I write things and dont re-read them before posting them. Anyways I wanted say that realism is not always good especially in an arcade game. I think 1943 is one of the most balanced bf games that has come out.

      • unit_one says:

M0t0rBreath, that’s okay. Sometimes I go overboard and don’t know when to stop ;)

And yes, I now know, that Battlefield games will always remain arcade, and I posted earlier about 1943 being more enjoyable than BC =)

    • fraggerron says:

we when you clime in an anti air craft gun on your own carrier and some kills you because they want it is bs

At first I was unhappy that airplane bombs were so weak against infantry, but now I’m pretty satisfied. Strafing people is so cool! It’s been so long since I’ve been able to enjoy air power in a Battlefield game (aircraft totally sucked in 2142).

I think my two major complaints are:
    1) Snipers are not very good at anything. In 2142 and BF2, players would often stand still while they shot their guns so they could get more accuracy. In 1943, the guns stay accurate even while on the move, so snipers have a very hard time shooting anyone since everyone is moving. Plus, because people regenerate their health, it’s hard to get any kills.

So I think it would be cool if Snipers were the only classes in the game that could cause enemies to be revealed on the map/radar display. That way they would truly be Recon soldiers. It’d be a nice little perk to being a Sniper.

    2) No Medics with revive ability :( Medics are one of the coolest features of 2142 and BF2. It really cements the feeling of teamwork in a squad.

    Minor complaint:
    - I can’t disable the “head bobbing” of the camera when I’m moving. In BF2 and 2142, I could turn that off. Some people, like me, get simulation sickness issues because of head bobbing. It’s not so bad in 1943 but still.. I would like to turn it off.

    • Crusty says:

All classes have to cope with moving targets and regenerating health, not only snipers. If they can’t aim at something that’s moving, they shouldn’t get the kill. It’s not that hard, and it’s not as overpowered as some games – seems fine.

Respawn delay is low and you can spawn off of *any* squadmate, not just a squad leader. Adding revives into that could easily overwhelm with too many people spawning/reviving left and right.

      • jerryku says:

Shooting a moving target is far easier with the other classes though, due to proximity/rate or fire/etc etc. Whenever I play sniper, I often feel like I’m purposefully handicapping myself with little benefit.

As for revives, they could always turn it back to the BF2/2142 system and let players only spawn on squad leaders. The revive system was just too fun to throw away.

        • Crusty says:

When at a distance, the sniper is a perfectly capable class. That’s how it’s supposed to be used: at a distance. I’ve used it a few times with no issues at all, while racking up several (extremely boring) kills. Tracking moving targets at a reasonable range is not difficult. It’s also far more useful as a support class rather than lone-wolfing; again, exactly as it should be. Should I try to engage anyone at close to medium range, or try to take on the enemies completely on my own, I don’t last so long (although the pistol can be surprisingly useful).

Switching the spawn system back would kind of wreck the casual, instant-action atmosphere of the game. BF2 is still there.

          • jerryku says:

I find the sniper in 1943 to be, by far, the least effective and least entertaining sniper to ever grace a Battlefield game. It just stinks. Whatever it can do, the rifleman can do just as well, and usually better.

As for medic revives wrecking the casual instant action atmosphere, I just don’t see it. Ah well, whatever.

    Default airplane controls

we dont care what hte defaults will be

but its major stoupidity to have the oposite stick movment when you press LB to look around from inside the plane

WHAT EVER WE DO IT DOESNT CHANGE

if we put invert axis the LB with the RS work invertly to the invert control changes

    MERCY GOUSTAV!!!!!

    sniper kills are dificoult

abandoned vehicals should be poping in the mini map 5 seconds after we abandon them
they give away our the position
    hotezone symboll to

  6. Crusty says:

Contrary to some of the above posts, I appreciate that snipers are not able to completely dominate other infantry. As this is an infantry-centric game as it stands, any increase in sniper efficiency would essentially ruin it for the other classes. I have seen others, and have myself been quite powerful using the sniper class; simply because it’s not overpowered does not mean it’s useless by any means. Snipers should have to work at getting kills as any other class should, rather than being able to sit back and pick people off while giving them little opportunity for retribution.

I also appreciate that tanks don’t have enormous splash damage. We’ve got a game here with at most 12 players on each side; there isn’t enough room for massively powerful tanks. If this was balanced as one of the PC titles, you would end up having a couple players in tanks and a couple in planes getting all of the points and most of the fun.

I would appreciate having head bobbing optional. I thought developers got over that fad awhile ago.

Gustav i love the Bf 1943 but i was wondering if you guys over there at dice maybe in the near future can patch up the game a bit…Like ive been playing Bf games since its begginings and bf 1942 is the best of the bunch in my opinion….When i heard you guys was doing BF1943 i was overjoyed. After playing Coral Sea i was somewhat extremely dissapointed. You guys made it more boring than the original version. In the original You had two seater planes. Loved it when a partner would sit behind you to shoot planes who tail you.
The carriers would sink in the original. Thats what made it fun. to see which carrier would sink first.
The map was slightly larger in the original…i loved it when flying to the carrier was a trip to get there because it gave you time to strategize your attack.
I loved in the original that you can parachute on their carrier and try to kill them on the ship instead always on planes. A great option.

In the original you can land on the islands between the two carriers and use flak to bring the planes down . That was awesome.

It seems you took all those features out of the original making Coral Sea a boring map that i don’t play in the console version. I only play the 3 main maps. Coral Sea sadly is no longer a favorite of mine. Is ther anyway you can patch it up or maybe fix this for the PC version. I’m down to buy it again if you guys fix Coral Sea to make it fun again. I wish Battlefield 1942 was widescreen so i can go back to it and play Coral Sea there. it is so much fun.
Im not the only one who feels this way about Coral Sea take alook at the forums in Xbox live

Besides the fact that I am usually a PC only gamer, I bought BF43 for my PS3, just to get my hands on it before PC launch in September.
    My 50 cents:

    - headbobbing should be an option

    - tanks are fine ( I used to be a tanker in BF2) – the fact that there is almost no splash damage sucks – I admit – but I get used to it.
It’s not hat bad because I can destroy almost all of the AT soldier’s cover and let my coaxial take care then.
If you keep your tank rolling and are not a sitting duck, AT rockets are not that of a problem.

    - snipers are FINE, I was surprised.

    - In general the game takes more skill than I thought

    - I haven’t found any bug yet

    - graphics suck on my 37″ FullHD LCD TV, sorry, but this aliasing is awefull and textures are not really crisp on a PS3.

Conclusion: I can”t wait for my PC version and good job, Gustav & Dice!

      Hey Alex,

I had the saem issue on my PS3 compared to the Xbox version. It turns out I had 720p disabled on my video settings. I did this as it upscales on certain games but not on 43. After changing it the graphics looked MUCH improved as it was 720p not the 480 it had been running at. So if your telly runs 720p make sure its enabled. The 360 runs at 1080p I am not sure if its native but according to live it is native 1080. Give it a go and I think you will be pleasantly surprised. I know I was.

      Cheers,
      Zeitgeist

      • Al3x says:

        hey Zeitgeist,

My TV is on 1080p, PS3 is basically also 1080p, when I start BF43 it runs in 720p because BF43 is a 720p game.My TV shows the current resolution on an overlay.
Anyways, I will check out some different settings, though I think all settings are ok.

        Thanks!

  9. Al3x says:

I have to add something, because I think that many guys out there look at BF43 in the wrong way.

If it’s ok, I take myself as an example.
I am into eSports for years and BF was my game.
Bf2 f.e. was a game where I could stick to all day long, for 10 hours and it wouldn’t get boring.
There is so much to explore and so many things to play with.

    BF43 – to me – get’s boring after 2 hours.
    3 classes and 4 maps.

BUT THAT IS OK, it’s a game I bought for 13 Euros, it is a Battlefield game and it gives my this feeling the second I jump into a server.
It’s loads of fun and it distracts me from my workdays.
I jump into it whenver I have 1 hour or so time left and then I leave again. Perfect!

BF43 – for me – is a game like an appetizer – an appetizer for MORE, coming next year with Bad Company 2 and then maybe BF3.
Then I will spend much more time – in a professional manner – with a new Battlefield game.

    Thanks!

Gustav a question from an bf1942 modder here , is the pc version modder friendly ? Can i change for example a tank speed just by editing a con file like in bf1942 ? if thats possible most issues can be solved by a community mod , like in bf1942 its possible for example to have regenerating health and unlimeted ammo just by editing soldiers .con files in objetcs.rfa.

    • Gustav says:

I really cant say how mod friendly the game will be. We havent been focusing on that since this have been a “small” project and we have focused on delivering the gameplay and fun with a very small group of people developing it making “extras” as modding being pushed out for optimizing and bugs!

But by looking back on other games in the past most of them can be modded without “we”, the developers, making “real” support for it, wouldn’t suprise me if someone comes up with a good way to mod this also =)

  13. rdc_firefly says:

Thanks for the answer Gustav , guess i gonna be making mods for it Soon as its released . Hopefully :)
