DICE & BF1943 at SGA

DICE visited held the event last night for the Swedish Game Awards evenings.
Yashar and K.M hold speeches about the developing of a game and more specific the developing of Battlefield 1943.

In the meantime I had installed 9 consoles loaded with Battlefield 1943 to have some fun in the pauses!

    well he eazyly forgets bf 2 gameplay and 64 players to add to modern combat and to the other battlefields….
    i tought tha he will be the one
    maybe he have altzhimer!!
    but i heard for 40 players on consoles on bfbc 2
    so im not going to break your nerves no more.
    lets hope he will add more at the future

    We will see. We are not developing major new tech for BF1943 from BC1 so 24 players was an easy choice for us and it have played out really nice.
    Everyone who plays it agrees that adding more players now wouldnt do anything for the gameplay we have!

    Looks nice, but as you do know it’s easier to develop against one console and we at DICE dont do that =)

    I hope MAG will be a sucess, because it sounds nice but I dont get convinced by that video.

    They must have done something do divide the 256 players up. You cant just release them into a map and let them spawn where ever they want to without any rules, that is the solution I want to see =)

    And if they have a divide solution you can with tech LOD everything aoutside your area away, that might be their solution.

    You are also never going to play against 256 players, but in smaller groups of 32 or 64 players. Anyone heard of Bf2? =)

    “If you’re talking sheer chaos, in terms of, if you drop 256 players into a village square like an arena, that’s going to be unmitigated,” says creative director Ed Byrne. “So what we wanted to do is build that intensity and use that flow to direct players from small encounters to larger, and to basically make sure that squads link up actually more like a realistic military operation.”

    They also havent got driveable vehicles.. Vehicles is one of the main reason why Battlefield games are tech-heavy. We love “real” vehicles.

    MAG is only going to have 1 apc that you can drive.
    So think more of it like Counter-strike with 256 players, shouldnt be to hard with todays hardware.

    The only “real” thing about Battlefield vehicles is the model itself and most of the sound effects, the physics and armament are no good…

    They have gotten better since bf2. BC1 sounds amazing and the graphics as well. I can’t wait to try on a PC with a soundcard!

    As for MAG, it’ll be good just to try it out but I honestly think it might be too much. If they add where you can choose the player count like bf2, then more ppl would be playing with a lot less players.

    The thing that makes Bf2 and 1942 really good is the diversity of what you can do in the battlefield. You can accomplish objectives in different ways. Don’t forget, teh vehicles awesome too. Who ever thought of controlling the TV missile in a chopper is a genius. I just hope the next big PC battlefield game has alll those things I mentioned and more. I hope we see continued support for future BF games like you guys are doing now.

    Gustav, the battlefield series got good vehicles. But they all have major flaws, sorry, that is true.
    There are not many FPS games with vehicles.
    And usually there are not as many vehicles as in Battlefield. (I don’t know about Armed assault or Operation flashpoint, I never played them -PC is too weak)
    But I have a PS3 and I do want to receive a quality product.
    Half-life 2 and Episode one, Killzone 2, Farcry 2, Fear 2 had something…Well Bad Company 2 should have good vehicles and weapons!

    Dont be mad, please, but here are the issues with vehicles in Bad Company…
    1) The vehicles seem to be very light. It looks like a Moon Buggy riding on the surface of the mood (especially the DVP).
    2) Vehicles have bad hitpoins (shooting at the windous of a Hummer or similar type of transport will result in total destruction in the following explosion. Those vehicles are ment to protect the inhabitants and not explode from a gunfire…)
    3) Similar effects are applied to the heavy armored vehicles sutch as IFV and Tanks, please… they should be disabled (no moving, no operating the turrets) and catch fire, allowing a human to get out of it. Exploding should be happening from “overkill” from a JDAM, big explosives.
    4) Vehicles in Bad Company are too slow.
    5) Vehicles in Bad Company are too weak.
    6) Patrol boats explode in flames when hit in the hull. (they should just sink)
    Those kind of things with vehicles and weapons do not make the game fun. Opposite this is getting more and more annoying and irritating each time I’m playing the multiplayer. (The single player was awesome -exept for the stupid teammate bots)
    I’m not bashing the Bad Company. It is just, I was hoping for a more fun game looking at all those commercials and trailers.
    Bad Company 2 will be out in Q4, the developers still have atleast 150 days to complete it. I am constantly searching for a new information, but it is too early. I wanted to offer an idea about Normal mode, and Simulation Mode. The first could be named “Bad Company” and the second “Serious Things”. But I did not get any feedback from EA or DICE…
    Gustav, please answer, should I keep trying to help and provide feedback, or just leave everything to the developers and their ideas?

    They did say they wanted to improve the vehicles and weapons. Although I do agree with Unit, I disagree as to making the vehicles too real. I think vehicles are meant to have fun not too really copy real life vehicles 100%. It they have the mod tools then you can make your own mod and make the vehicles as real was you want.

    I forgot about helicopters…
    7) Why does the helicopter make those stupid rotations after it was lethally hit? By the time he is doing those manewers the pilot should had already catapulted to savety! And again, like all vehicles it explodes. I think that the helicopter should be disabled and fall to the ground, allowing the pilot and his gunman to escape.

    Our vehicles are not real copies, but the main physic is aimed to be real then we ofcourse tweak them how we think they are the most fun!

    Andd i do agree about the helicopter thing in BC1, we will see what we can do in BC2 ;)
