Battlefield 1943 Q&A

I spent my weekend answering questions for the Swedish Battlefield community ,and now I’d like to give all non-Swedish speakers the chance to learn more in-depth what Battlefield 1943 is all about!

- Is there any support for clan matches?
- Why a 24-player limit?
- How does the replenish ammo function work?

These are questions that have been answered by producer Patrick Liu in his blog and by me at BF2.se. Don’t hesitate to ask new questions in the comments!

Q&A

Will there be any ships in the game?
BF1943 have 2 hangar ships and LCVP’s.

Is there any support for clan matches?
There will be support for private matches in BF1943.

How many kits will there be in BF1943?
We have narrowed down the number of kits to 3 kits that enables you to do almost everything that you could do in BF1942!

  • Infantry – SMG, Hand grenades, Anti-tank rifle and a lethal Wrench!
  • Rifleman – Semi-automatic Rifle (Garand etc), Rifle Grenade, Hand grenades, knife
  • Scout – Bolt-action Sniper Rifle, Expack (C4), Pistol and sword/knife

Infantry and Scout seem to have some kind of anti-vehicle weapon, what about Rifleman?

Rifleman have his Rifle Grenade rifle that does damage to vehicles!

Is BF1943 a “Internet browser” game?
No, BF1943 is not a Internet browser game, it’s a download-only game on X360, PS3 & PC.

Is there any stats system?
Yes, BF1943 will use a stats system very much like the one in Bad Company.

Is there any medic packs or ammo crates on the levels?
No BF1943 won’t have either.

  • BF1943 uses a regenerating health system
  • BF1943 uses a replenish ammo system

The ammo system is balanced with reload and overheat systems. You still will have clips with 5/8/30 rounds that needs reloading.

Expacks and AT rockets are coming in “bundles”, you can fire the amount of rockets you have pretty fast, then a tweaked timer kicks in to reload the bundle!

All this together will give you an gaming experience where you don’t need to run around looking for crates and can focus on what’s fun, pwning enemies!  =)

How does the Air Raid work?
The Air strike can be called in by any one person and it’s controlled by that person!

How does the recoil and deviation system work?
BF1943 uses my new weapon design that instead of randomizing bullets in a big circle as in many other games, your bullets will instead “follow” after each other in a pattern.
This doesn’t mean that it’s easier to use the weapons but they will be easier to learn, control and master!

Is there any unlocks?
We wanted to give all players the same experience from start and that’s why we will not use unlocks but give you all the weapons and gadgets from the start!
But our stats system will give you things to hunt for instead!

Why does BF1943 have a 24 players?
64 players is awesome but will all good there is some hurting also. The 24 player limit is not about us being lazy, but the experience of a massive battlefield is necessary not bound to the amount of players!
We have also optimized the layout and size of the maps to compensate for the 24 player limit.

And as many of you remember most clan wars  where player with 8vs8 or 12vs12 and what we have seen many of the 64-player servers are mostly half-full or having lack of performance.

Beside these design decisions  there are technical limitations. There are very restricted bandwidth limits on the consoles and we are networking a lot more than 24 players:
- 24 players are networked
- Almost as many physics driven vehicles with movable and destroyable parts
- All destruction, if a wall is being destroyed on one client we need to update it on all the others, otherwise we could end up with players hiding behind non-existent walls.

If we removed all destruction and all our vehicles we could have more players. But no other game gives you the wide gaming experience we have!

I cant see any minimap on the preview videos, is it removed?
BF1943 will have a minimap at release, it just haven’t been added yet =)
The videos you see are recorded from a pre-alpha build and is not always the final version!

Has anything been done about base raping for collecting stats?
Yes, BF1943 uses an anti-base-rape system that makes it impossible to get any stats inside enemy bases!

That’s all for now! Make sure to give me your thoughts and questions in the comments!

Seems to me not many people are happy about this 1943 and or Battfield BC 2, seems dice and or EA are digging a hole
But like I say I really cant comment of this before I have a go myself but looks like something would be great for about 2 weeks then get boring
Anyway is there a beta or demo out there so we can have a look.
that would make a lot of sense instead of making people wait it only infuriates a lot of people
Obviously most BF2 rs what to know is this BF3 I say No but we only Ea or dice know the answer

  2. victimblue says:

    i can’t wait.

  3. victimblue says:

i really hope they keep the plane controls intact. they were awesome in bf1942. Hope they don’t change a thing except updated graphics.I have to confess…im really into world war 2 history thanks to BF 1942. I hope this one is better.

  4. Sam says:

An excellent way to ruin the Battlefield name just to cater to little kids. I am sorry for being rude, but you are going to lose the majority of BF2 fanbase. And I will remind you that Battlefield sold more copies than Battlefield Bad Company on 2 platforms combined. You just remember that. You guys just sold out big time. Do you really think PC gamers are going to embrace this dumbed down game? 3 classes? Unlimited ammo, 24 PLAYERS cap!? You lost a sale from me.

  5. klaus says:

    Hey Gustav,

as a pc player, i feel forgotten.

hopefully someone is reading this, cause i’m crying…it seems that a good friend will die. I love battlefield and sometimes i think that you underestimate the potential.
I cannot accept that without getting in touch before it’s too late.
the problem with 1943 is that many people waited for an announcement of a battlefield2 follow-up aaa title on PC for the core players. They needed hope.
But now, a tiny little 1943 was announced – and if the marketing guys aren’t dumb – there will be nothing more. Cause if there would be more, they would have announced it earlier. Your feedback would be way more positive. The core players would know for what they are waiting for with 1943 and noone would ever complain about player sizes. But they don’t. That’s the problem and BFBC2 won’t solve this.

Call me a freak, but think about it.

As 1943 is not a real aaa bf title, will there be a bf2 follow-up on pc in foreseeable time people are waiting for that is still unannounced?

    regards
    klaus

  6. rudedog says:

I have a couple of question if I may

    - Will there be mod tools for custom maps and mods?
    - Will there be dedicated servers for the PC customers?
    - Will you be restricting the PC customer because of the console customer?
    - What are the differences between say PC vs 360?
    - Will there be a demo of the game before it ships retail?

Thanks for your time, I really hope you don’t develop for the least common denominator then port it from there.

  7. Leki says:

    Thanks for answering questions.

BF1943 seems like a very dumbed down game compared to all the other BF games i have played which i’m not happy about but i do have a few questions which would be great if you could answer.

The air raid bunker, can players be killed while in it…i dont want to be having a firefight with someone only to have them quicky jump in there and be invincible!

Whats to stop pilots staying really high up out of AA range dropping there unlimited bombs onto flags constantly? Will the AA even be effective on the games release as in other BF games its not been until patches.

    Will it get punkbuster support?

what about battlefield recorder support for catching cheaters and making machinima?

will it have a good squad system like BF2/BF2142 where we can only allow friends in and spawn on squad leader?

will there be a beta or even a closed beta? I know i would be happy to test for bugs/balance and give feedback if it will make a difference.

Flag warning. This is when the flag icon flashes to show enemy is trying to take it. This feature was hated by most people in BFV and most servers disabled it. Its not good for gameplay as it removes the option of the sneaky player to try and take a flag, all that happends is it reduces the willingness of people to try and cap a flag (just spawn rape them instead) as when they go into flag radius (which has now been greatly reduced in size making it more harder to take flags) the whole enemy team is alerted by the flashing flag icon and they can just throw nades at the flag and rush in to take you out. Also smart pilots will be able to see easily and dive in and spam bombs at the flag since they have unlimited bombs and there will be no where for a solider to hide and survive as all buildings are destructible. Is this annoying feature is going to stay? at least make it optional by the server admin.

Match making. Its fine on the consoles but dont force this onto PC users. We need a server browser. I would be happy with both as that pleases everyone. will there be a server browser?

    Looking forward to the Q&A 2 :)

  8. Leki says:

also below is my thoughts on a few aspects of BF1943:

Only 3 classes. This really makes the game less diverse and people will become bored much quicker. Great classes like the medic have been removed cutting off whole great teamplay and battlefield moments. For example some of the best moments i’ve had on battlefield games are times when wounded teammates are requesting a medic after a firefight, you give them a “roger that” to show you coming to help and then make your way to each other dodging incomming fire and heal them up, then getting a “thanks” afterwards and continuing the fight. Things like that are what make a battlefield game great.

Auto health regeneration. Like the reason above but also it takes away the tension of a fight having your health regenerate instead of being wounded and knowing your at more of a risk. Its much more fun having medics to heal you, picking up a medic kit to heal yourself or at least having a medical cabinet like in BFV.

Unlimited ammo. I’ve read 100′s of comments from people hating this and i have to agree. This is dumbing the game down way too much even for the casual gamer. With no support class to resupply you why not at least have limited ammo but with ammo supply boxes around the map like in BF1942? Having unlimited ammo is just going to make no one care about aiming as much, allowing you to just camp and constantly spay at enemy with no need to be conservative about your shots or fear of being in a low ammo situation and having to move out to resupply/take an enemys kit. I hope nades/rockets etc are not unlimited too!

Only 24 players. If this is a console limitation then at least allow PC server admins to have servers to support 32 players if not 64 players.

  9. Gustav says:

Thx for your comments. I want to clarify as much as I can, and I can assure that this is not a “dumbed” down game, just a very focused one!

Countinue to ask specific questions and I will answer them in a Q&A later!

  10. DavidChampion says:

I for one am very happy there is more focus on the game then adding to many players and making performance slower or lacking… I for one have yet to see a full server even on a PC 64 Players run smoothly ,even if my PC can handle it, you constantly see drop offs and spike problems… Just thankful for this.

My question is this I guess… Will there be DLC for all platforms including the PC, I kindof obvious i’m sure, but just looking for confirmation…
Map Packs, Classes, or even more weapons?

I know this has divided the PC community before is all, I for one will be buying this and anything additional but this has been the problem in the past.

    • GrimReeper says:

What were you running? A Pentium 2 or what?

I have played all the pc battlefields with full servers and never have I experienced lag or low fps on either my pc or the server. I only play bf2 now and always play on full 64 players servers because that’s the best way to play it. It isn’t hard to get a pc capable of handling this and the many different servers I have played on have all coped fine.

I know consoles can suck in terms of performance but don’t make pc users suffers because casual/console users decide to use crap hardware.

  11. Dronetek says:

What I don’t get is where the EA guy claims people aren’t filling 64 man servers. I can think of 4 tournaments off the top of my head that have 10 hour 4 man battles twice a week. I can think of at least a dozen game servers that are constantly FULL with 64.

Where the hell does this guy get his information?

  12. Disgruntled says:

Isn’t a dumbed down Battlefield experience what BF: Heroes is supposed to be?

  13. Fred Tucker says:

Why even bother with vehicles any more, just become another COD/CS retread that seems to be the popular option now.

You removed driveable ships from the game. You made aircraft impossible to defend against. Instead of improving all this you just released an option get rid of all armed vehicles. Why bother any more.

The scope of BF 1942 was an epic game that I don’t think we will ever see again. Similar to what happened to Tribes series.

    • Gustav says:

There is actually an excellent defense against air planes in BF1943, you don’t want to fly anywhere near a stationary Anti-Air =)

  14. dommafia says:

are there plans of a beta before game launch? thanks.

  15. bob says:

Apart from the destructive environment and updated graphics, how is this game any better than BF2 or 1942?

  16. iQu'e says:

I really appreciate that you, Gustav, have taken the time to answer to our questions and write this blog post. Big thanks. However…

…this is not what pretty much anyone I knew wanted. I’m a big battlefield fan since 1942 and have bought every title except for Bad Company, since I can’t stand shooters on consoles. I understand that those that have played BF since the beginning might not be the core audience for this game, but the PC gamers are disappointed. I’m gonna have to pass on this game, and I know many other PC gamers will, because in a sense it’s not a true battlefield game.

I can’t wait for Bad Company 2 for PC, but if there’s anything your old fans want, it’s depth, squadplay and 50% arcade 50% “serious business”. Your old PC Battlefield games are still some of the most played online shooters on the PC, and they are for a reason.

I understand that BF1943 may not be supposed to be a huge, epic game like the old battlefields. But… that’s what people want.

    Have a nice day

  17. Mozer says:

Will mods be possible on pc? (with this I don’t mean mod tools actually, just that the game would allow custom content/ full conversion mods)
I really hope so because the frostbite engine just gives so many cool opportunities for some really cool mods!

  18. rudedog says:

I’m sorry but TBH this looks and sounds more and more like you’re trying to impress the console kids and not the fans of the original BF.

I could see if you made all new maps, but your converting old maps that played fine with 64 players.

I also agree with the above, there are lots of 64 player servers at least here in the states.

Why do developers still develop for the limited/weaker platform and then try and port it to the more powerful platform?

  19. Gator says:

Gustav, thanks for all the great info. I have a couple of questions for you, please. It looks to me that the console and PC might be be playing side-by-side on the same servers. Could you please verify this.

As server operators, we will need to use a “Ranked” provider? I hope you designed the server files so we will have better access and control of the servers vs. having to use a 3rd party Admin tool to admin our servers.

  20. Gustav says:

I have answered some comment-questions in the last post!

Dice has been digging a hole since BF:V,it just gets deeper and deeper. The will never see a penny of mine.

I was always supporter of WW 2 battlefield game and i was really excited about this.
I hoped to see BF1942 with UPDATED graphic with same amount of players.
but that is not going to happen!

i would pay 100$ for new BF3 game. I dont need free or dowload cheap games!.
Even my 14 y old son is not excited about this one.

    bring us BF3!

  23. Abbay says:

Well, 24 players on a PC would just be unsufficient. The reason why clans play not more thant 8on8 is that they all need to communicate with each other. On public gaming you usually don’t do that. But you expect “war” and thus you shouldn’t need to search for enemies on Wake Island. I have seen the size of the map. Imagining only 24 players on it is making me KLJJF§F§$%%”FF.

Besides, not all servers will be full.

Please change that. Battlefield always had a battlefield full with players and it should still always have.

    • Mozer says:

yes I gotta agree on this, 24 players just isn’t very much for pc, also there are enough full 64 player servers out there for like every battlefield game that supports 64 players, even some mods out there have accomplished this!

  24. Giorgos78 says:

    Dear Gustav
I will give you facts and proof for what will say.
Please go to GOOGLE search machine and type the word “battlefield”
You will see that from the ready sentensis google is poping out on a list
the sentes “battlefield 3″ is been searched for more than 28.500.000 times…… just for the numbers!!! This means that bf2 was a sacesful formula , why change it?
If you have gest in your house and they all get crazy for your lobster speciality cooking, what is the point of serving fishticks to them?
    You said:

“…and what we have seen many of the 64-player servers are mostly half-full or having lack of performance.
Beside these design decisions there are technical limitations. There are very restricted bandwidth limits on the consoles and we are networking a lot more than 24 players”

this is a problem you have to solve You have to find a way to gather all the players .Evrybody liked 64 players ,comader, attack and defence orders
WILL PC VERZION HAVE 64 AT LEAST ?????????

please ansower only that if you can…..

  25. Jason says:

I’ve played 1942, Vietnam, 2, and 2142 for the PC. What attracted me first to 1942 was the ability to jump into any vehicle; land, sea, and air and fight. After playing 1942, I liked the uniqueness of each character class; and how each character class was enhanced by the contributions of other classes on your team. The reduction of classes in 2142 ended up being ok, and didn’t sacrifice the importance of teamwork. But to live up to my expectations, DICE needs to continue to innovate the Battlefield series. Some aspects of the game (piloting,co-piloting air, land, sea craft; and emphasis on teamwork) are necessary to carry the Battlefield torch forward. But plenty can be done around this concept to keep each new Battlefield game unique, engaging, and competitive. In 2142, teams with commanders win more times than those without. Teams with many squads win more often than times without. So, the commander/squad leader/grunt dynamic works very well to engrain teamwork for success. I was a little disappointed with BF: Heroes, but I thought: ‘ok, you’ve had your fun and experimented with something new, now lets see something innovative, unique, and fun in BF 3.’ But BF 1943 rehashes something already done before and takes away what had become important to the Battlefield series.

    • Ollie says:

Well i have nothing to add to Jasons reply.

The first Battlefield Game was quiet THE Game i waited for… I loved BF2 but somewhen stopped becaus the patching was just a pain in the a…. When i saw the first Video for BF1943 i really was open to try again and was hoping the patch problems would be of the board with this new game. but some days later i found out what bf1943 really meant.. sorry.. 3 classes, vehicles removed… who had such ideas?!? Battlefield Games have allways been a garand for a lot of fun… but since the focus is more on the console players and ea seems not to listen to the pc community anymore i don`t think the bf series will be cutting edge as it has been before. Consoles are quiet good for Singstar, Beat´em´Ups and stuff like that… but please don`t make crap games for the pc users just becaus the consoles can`t fullfill the requirements anymore because of slow hardware. So please EA wake up and use your ressources to bring out a worthy successor to BF1942…

  26. birdhaus says:

The clan i’m from has a proud association with the BF series, BF1942, BF: Vietnam, BF2 we even played BF2142. We even bought all the booster packs which were pointless money grabbing cash-in’s since nobody in my country plays them outside of 2 months from launch. BF1943 feels like recycling, a new coat of gloss and bammo let’s pump it out to the masses, I mean how many times do we have to play Wake ffs. Watering it down is a slap in face to your loyal PC fanbase, we as PC gamers were there from the start. DICE’s new IP’s Mirrors Edge, Battlefield:Heroes and BF:BC might be all forgiven if you’d use this new and amazing technology and get out there and step up to your closest competition – OFP2, ARMA2 and the new Delta Force:Angel Rising. C’mon BF was always my game and BF1943, in the year of the WW2 film, see “The Pacific” feels like a tie-in or better yet a prelude to the big one BF3 that we’ve all been patiently waiting for, wah wah wah wah augh, could you please just make BF3 so fanatastically awesome that it regains it’s spot as the number 1# sandbox game. please?

  27. [FH2]Fenring says:

Its really not bf1943 that makes me dissapointed, but the fact that DICE seems to be now a console only company. I read on polycount forums that one DICE dev didnt even know it was coming to PC as well = straight console port! And I presume BC2 will be 24players console port, just as BC1 and BF1943. And since bf3 is not announced at this point i presume there will never be one.

You guys really need to clearify what your intentions for the future are because these press releases is one of the worst PR disasters I have ever seen. I had a really bad feeling when i bought bf2142 but I never tought it would come to this.

  32. Zeitgeist XIII says:

    Gustav,

I have been a long time player of the BF series. I think this game will have a good niche. The casual aspect that is being focused on the industry overall may cause a “dumbing” of games but sometimes thats all I want to play. OF course I am very excited about a BF BC 2 or a BF3 for PC. I still like the complexity and varied areas of potential specialty by having that complexity it lets me and my regular squad mates build a very good squad based on our skill sets and what we are most familar with.

  33. trip1ex says:

    Nice, but where’s BF3?

BFf2 was a great pick up and play game. One I could get into for 15 minutes or a few hours. With a ton of variety that kept one enjoying the game for a long time.

And on 50+ player servers it was easy to take a break for a few minutes to get something to eat, use the bathroom or help the wife or kids and not disrupt the game much.

That’s 1 thing the 24 player limit makes more difficult. If a player or two leaves on a 24 player server it’s a much bigger deal. The ebb and flow of the game will change alot when players come and go on a smaller server.

Anyway did BF2 not sell? I thought you guys sold 2 million copies at least.

The community doesn’t mind these games if they are not the only games you’re releasing. But enough is enough. Where is BF3. WE want BF3. :)

  34. Moxstar says:

I just dont understand the logic ??

Why are you trying to create a game for the lowest common denominator ??

You already have games for that (Heroes and Bad Company)

You made your money on with the PC fanbase and created 2 iconic classic PC games that sold MILLIONS of copies. (Battlefield 1942 5 years ago had sold more than 4 million copies.. so who knows who much it is now)

What made battlefield special was the large open enviroments.. large numbers of players.. and land, sea and air combat… if you get rid of that then you have a run of the mill generic type shooter.

There just seems ZERO logic in the decision.. sure you can make this game.. but why call it battlefield 1943 ?? call it something like Battlefield Arcade : Pacific… and then that leaves room for a proper battlefield 1943 and a Battlefield 3.

I dont know whos pulling the strings here .. but whoever has made these decisions has killed one of the best game franchises in history.

If this is not “Selling Out” i dont know what is.

Its like watching a friend die.

  35. Momo says:

Yeah, I’m with the rest here. I was a huge BF2 fan – played that game for more hours than I can count. And I got a bunch of others to buy it and play with me. This just looks like a simplified version of the battlefield franchise made to cater to consoles. I love how the big publishers release dumbed down console games for the PC and then blame the low sales on piracy. If you want to know why they sell poorly, it’s because they’re designed for a different platform and they don’t interest us.

ArmA II looks like it will be a much more interesting military multiplayer game, and I will likely put my money there.

  36. David says:

Well i personally think that you are the architecs of your own downfall now, may i ask a question? Do you all live in an enclosed environment and look through the windows with blindfolds on? Do you all have your common sence and a sence for whats right taken away once you are employed at Dice/EA?

I think its about time you all took a long hard look at what the people that made you want and that is directed at Dice, not so much EA, as we all no that they are just after our hard earned money.

You have lead the field with the BF hallmark and thoes people that have put you at the front are PC CUSTOMERS, yes its in caps, so you understand we are customers. Consoles are not what have put you where you are, yet you keep screwing us over.

I dont think thats to harsh and im sure that every PC player in the world would agree with me? Answer us one question its not hard why?

You wont answer me because eithier you are told not to or dont want to which is it?

You have given no indication why you have droped PC development for consoles. I for one am sick and tired of being given nothing by you, like many others i have bought all your titles in the BF series, a lot of which sould have been free. You give us no new maps something that is out there in abundance but you wont allow them to be used on ranked servers why not?

Why anounce 1943 when you still havent produced the fabled 1.5 patch for BF2? Surley this is more importent as it is now so far behind?

You do not see that every time you release something new and dont give us what you have promised for so long ( 1.5 ) the community becomes dissalutioned, but this doesnt seem to bother you at all?

If the new games coming this year ARMA2 and OF2 are a success what are you going to do? These games are for the PC not weak ports they give us what we want, these developers listen to their consumers and they are delivering.

Its time you woke up and smelled the java you are runing out of time. the afore mentioned games will take BF players in thier thousands and the new players will buy these games because there is no alternative and with your previous track record these players will not come back, but thats ok isnt it? You still have your console players?

  37. Mozer says:

got another question, will there be different map sizes for a number of players for each map like in previous bf games (pc ones) ?

  38. Eyemaster says:

I agree with most of the comments here. You have lost focus of what the Battlefield franchise is. And where is the BF2 1.5 patch? Also, I never bought the booster packs. I hope you guys don’t pull that stunt on your new customers with BF1943. I will not be buying a dumbed down console port. I’ll be looking somewhere else for my next BF fix. ArmA 2 is looking good to me.

  39. Brian H says:

    Hey Gustav,

I understand that English may not be your first language, so here are some corrections for you:

The rifle has a rifle grenade that does damage to vehicles!

We wanted to give all players the same experience from start

We wanted to give all players the same experience from the start

64 players is awesome but will all good there is some hurting also.

64 players is awesome but with all the good there is some bad as well.

but the experience of a massive battlefield is necessary not bound to the amount of players!

but the experience of a massive battlefield is not necessarily bound to the amount of players!

And as many of you remember most clan wars where player with 8vs8 or 12vs12 and what we have seen many of the 64-player servers are mostly half-full or having lack of performance.

There are very restricted bandwidth limits on the consoles and we are networking a lot more than 24 players:

I just want to say Im looking forward to this addition to the 1942 series. Im not going to say anthing without trying it out first. Im glad you return to the roots of old. I have reinstalled 1942 so many times that its a pain in the ass to look for widescreen patches. So this revamp of sorts will solve my problem. Bf 2 was a great game but i have reinstalled 1942 more times than bf2 through out several years. So i won’t knock it because i know The battlefield series is always top notch. So hope you deliver a great game.

  41. Mozer says:

it really is a shame that there are so many negative comments… well atleast I won’t loose my trust in dice! I still play every battlefield game! (even vietnam and 2142!) even though I can not spend like 8 hours a day to play it because I still got my own personal life I still just love it to play whatever battlefield game! So with this I am still looking forward to all 3 announced battlefield games since I am sure they still will be a lot of fun even though so many people here don’t agree with me!

      DEAR GUSTAV

you have to make your boss read all this comments
he is making a big mistake wiyh battlefield series
      saw him this posts
its your duty as a devoted unit of DICE company to protect your boss from wrong desisions
      give me his e mail….. ;)

Gustav, I have an idea. You guys need a web page where people can vote for certain things to be implemeted or not in the upcomming bf3 1943. If u asked the players would u prefer 24 or 64 players. The majority would respond with 64. Bf2 was near perfect after the 1.41 patch. all as ea had to do was change it to 1940s style and update the physics and graphics. I have had a gutfull of ea and their pathetic attempts of making games. I have no social life and bf2 means the world to me. Please be wise and take the gamers veiws into account rather than just a handful of ea programmers. Before the game is released

  43. Doofio says:

Umm…can someone explain to me how this isn’t just a simple MOD for Battlefield 1942?

    – Dumbed down game dynamics (Deny it all you want Gustav, the game is dumbed down)
    – No real significant changes that make it worth calling it a “new” installment.

This new “version” is essentially dumping everything that made the game worthwhile and challenging to play and leaving it with nothing but deathmatch style gameplay…might as well just play UT3. Most of the “new” maps are simply re-hashes of the old ones…pretty lazy Dice, pretty lazy.

Chances are, if people even care afterwards, is this game will sell poorly, be considered the failure most are expecting and a few years down the line we’ll get Battlefield 3.

  44. Emil Kjellner says:

Dear Gustav i am a real hardcore Battlefield fan and i wish that you could tell the other guys at Dice that they are making a huge mistake!
Here are some good reasons why you should sit down a second and think about what you are doing, and yes we all now that the big guys in EA want to make as much money as possibly, but that just wont happen if you keep on ignoring all the old Battlefield hardcore fans and yes i now what am talking about!
Unlimited ammo! shit that’s a really bad idea! it will completely take away all the teamplay and fun and there is good evidence for that, just look at Battlefield 2 Morden combat! How many copies did you guys sold? Morden combat was a big miss in the battlefield series!
I was playing it but i didn’t like it because you guys put in unlimited ammo! and there was no real teamplay in it!
But man i am proud of you guys work with 1942,Vietnam,BF2 and even 2142 hehe i just have to say that!
OK, enough of good things now! cause i am here to complain on you not say that you are good cause you ain’t good!
But i have a tip! Gather all your biggest fans from the different good games, 1942-2142,pump them for ideas and screw those fucking consoles and make the finest damn game on the planet cause we all now one thing in the end are you guys always the best!
And if you guys still want to be the best game developers in the world (and make the big guys at EA rich and happy) there is really time to change, go back to where you started it all.
Sen vet vi ju alla att Svenskar är bäst på att göra spel ;)

I don’t care of all the negative talk………..Im waiting for this one cause im a big WW2 fan.I have to thank DICE and EA for making me more interested in WW2 history.I know more about WW2 now and it history than i ever did before. After playing 1942, Throughout the years I have studied books , reviewed documentaries and sort of became a expert on WW2 history. I owe it all to DICE and EA.This all happened after playing BF 1942…Thank you for bringing the WW2 Battlefield to mainstream again. I have BF2 but i enjoyed 1942 more.

I am yet to see any in-game material from M.A.G, all the material that have been shown so far have been rendered.

All that have been said is that they will have 256 players on a server.
They might do it as wow for example, they have thousands of players on 1 server, but they limit the amount of ppl in each area.

But I am as you, really looking forward to see how M.A.G will turn out! And I cant comment on your statement before I see something ingame, working with 256 players :)

    Dear Mr. Halling,

I would like to ask you to overthink what you are doing. The last time when two Battlefields existed at the same time (Bf2 and bf2142) the community almost split. since bf2142 was a failure in the eyes of many the completly turned away fom bf.
In my opinion BF2 was the greatest tactical shooter ever to be released but got ruined by bad patch work and support, etc.
What makes games great? Looking at Counterstrike or WC3 I say its professional e-sports with lots of money input and media attention which cause huge communities.
Same going on now with CoD4.
As I said I believe that a good successor of Bf2 (which already hat EPS etc.) can easiely reach the class of Counterstrike.
The setting of Bf2 in modern time was good and these scenarios find the most fans as the rise of cod4: modern warfare and the flop of cod5 shows.
You should focus on BF Bad company 2 with a good balance for an infantry mod because here lies the basic for competetive e-sports.
What should be fixed is: Hitbox
    Netcode
and pls pls pls get rid of ingame dust
